Job application tracker template
A free spreadsheet template for tracking applications, hiring contacts and follow-ups. One row per application keeps every date and next step in one place.
How to use it
- Google Sheets: File → Import → Upload, then choose the CSV.
- Excel: open the CSV directly.
- Add a row the day you apply, while the job ad and contact details are in front of you.
Columns
- Company and Role: who you applied to and for what.
- Job link: the job ad, in case it's taken down.
- Date applied and Applied via: when, and whether on the employer's site or a job board.
- Hiring contact and Contact email: the person you wrote to.
- Introduction sent, Follow-up 1 and Follow-up 2: the dates you emailed them.
- Status and Next step: where it stands and what you do next.
- Notes: anything else worth remembering.
Keep the statuses short and fixed
A small, fixed set of statuses lets you sort and filter, for example: Applied, Intro sent, Followed up, Interview, Offer, Rejected and No reply. Change the status the day something happens. Put a day in Next step, such as "Follow up Tue" or "Prep for interview Fri", so sorting by it shows what's due first.
A weekly routine
- Sort by Next step and do what's due.
- For each new introduction, get the two follow-up dates from the follow-up date calculator.
- Mark applications with two follow-ups and no reply as No reply, and move on.
- Look at which kinds of roles get replies, and apply to more like them.
For realistic expectations, see how many applications it takes to get an interview and how long it takes to find a job.
How Applier keeps this record for you
